Defra has set up a small number of briefing events designed to help importers and exporters of plant and plant products as well as products of animal origin.
AIC is continually monitoring the coronavirus outbreak both in the UK and globally and has convened a crop protection sector group in order to assess the risks and the impact these may have on the crop protection sector. Risks identified will be passed to UK Government and subsequent advice and guidance will be passed back to sector members.
AIC’s Fertiliser Sector hosted a joint ' specialist workshop' for its members on Friday 17 th May together with Dr Murray Hart the Defra official responsible for formulating the UK position on the revision of the EU fertiliser regulation. The implementation of the revised EU regulation will see the withdrawal of the UK fertiliser regulations, and the potential loss of the associated flexibility for operation in the UK market that the UK regulations currently allow.

The next meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology in Agriculture will be held on Tuesday 10th September and will be given over to ‘Implementing the UK Agri-Tech Strategy.
Figures contributed to AIC from Fertiliser Sector members, accounting for an estimated 90% of the market, indicate that UK delivery tonnages for both straight and compound fertilisers are recovering.
