The Chemicals Regulation Division (CRD) has removed the restriction on feeding livestock with produce which has been treated with maleic hydrazide (MH), including potatoes and potato products.

The next meeting of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology in Agriculture will be held on Tuesday 10th September and will be given over to ‘Implementing the UK Agri-Tech Strategy.
European Protein Plan
The EU Commission is working on proposals for an EU Protein plan which may form a part of the reformed CAP from 2020. The protein plan will address research and innovation, agronomic challenges and the environmental benefits of protein crops, the development of supply/value chains and market potential for EU plant proteins in different market segments, including food.

Plastics
Whilst the primary focus is on consumer waste reduction, all industries need to play a part in reducing use of single use plastic packaging as part of the UK 2050 waste and resources strategy. Industry needs to demonstrate that it is taking action to ensure the plastic it uses is recycled and consider new packaging solutions. UK wide measures are expected, including a tax on plastic packaging and changes to the current regulatory.
